Who is Ozempic® approved for?
- Adults whose type 2 diabetes is not adequately controlled.
- As a treatment on its own when metformin is not suitable, or together with other diabetes medicines.
- Treatment is used in addition to diet and physical activity.
Before prescribing, a doctor will assess whether the medical requirements are met.

How does Ozempic® work?
Semaglutide acts in a similar way to the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1. When blood sugar is raised, it supports insulin release and therefore helps to lower blood sugar.

What does treatment involve?
Ozempic® is injected once a week into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. A doctor will assess whether it is suitable and determine the appropriate dose.
Nutrition counselling can be added to the treatment if desired.

Commonly reported side effects include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
