Wegovy®

Who is Wegovy® approved for?

• Adults with obesity and a BMI of 30 or higher.
• Adults with a BMI from 27 to below 30 and at least one weight-related health condition.
• Treatment is combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Before prescribing, a doctor will assess whether the medical requirements are met.

How does Wegovy® work?

Semaglutide acts in a similar way to the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1. It may reduce appetite, increase the feeling of fullness and therefore reduce food intake.

What does treatment involve?

Wegovy® is injected once a week into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. The dose is increased gradually as directed by a doctor.

Nutrition counselling can be added to the treatment if desired.

Possible side effects

Commonly reported side effects include:

• Nausea and vomiting
• Diarrhoea or constipation
• Abdominal pain
• Headache
